The line graph give information about the volume of Australian exports to four different destinations, namely Japan, the United States, India and China, between 1990 and 2012
Generally, the share of goods from Australian to China and India increased during this period, while the share of exports to the US and Japan shrank. Furthermore, surpassing Japan exports, China became the dominant destination for Australian goods in the end of the years
In the case of India and China, in 1990, among four different countries, these two countries were the lowest export destinations, with marginal shares of 1% and 2%, respectively . In the following year, China’s importance expanded, as the Australian exports to this country rose steadily to 5% by 2000, and then grew fivefold to just under 30% over the next 12 years. Moreover, India’s share witnessed a similar changes, remain stable at around 1% until 2000, followed by a steadily fell at 7% in 2009 before ending the period with marginal fall of 2%
Concerning remaining countries, initially, Japan started with the highest figure for Australian exports in the whole chart, with roughly 26%, doubling the figure for the US. Thereafter, the share of Australian exports to Japan declined to 20% in 1995, falling steadily to below 20% in the later years. As a result of this fall, Japan fell from the first to the second place in terms of Australian imports. A similar downward trend can be seen in the exports to the US, with the figure fluctuating between 1990 and 2000 before decreasing to just over 5% in the final year.
