Overall, what stands out from the graph is that car theft was by far the most significant crime over the period shown, whereas house burgling and street robbery saw small changes by the end of the period.
Looking at the details, the number of car thefts showed 0.4 million at the beginning. It rose slightly to 1 million by 1990 and continued increasing dramatically to a peak of 1.6 million by 1995. And then, it experienced a gradual drop to 1 million again for the rest of the period.
As for the figures for house burglaries and street robberies, they had almost similar numbers of crimes at the start. In fact, in 1970, house burglary was at 0.2 million. It saw a sharp growth to 0.6 million by 1980, and then it remained stable before rising to around 0.7 million by 1990. From 1990 to 2005, it declined slightly to around 0.5 million.
