Initially, the number of cases of car theft commenced at 0.4 million, which was the highest compared to house burgling and street robbery with only 0.2 million and 0.1 million. In the next 25 years, the number of thieves stealing cars skyrocketed by 1.2 million before decreasing moderately to exactly 1 million in 2005. In addition, the number of burglars breaking into houses grew considerably from 0.2 to 0.9 million cases between 1970 and 1980. After that, it exhibited a noticeable decline to just under 0,6 million cases in a 25-year period.
Street robbery was the lowest of three crimes as it saw a slight increase by 0.3 in 45 years.
