Overall, the figure for total population and urban population witnessed a clearly upward trend, that of rural remained relatively stable over the period. In addition, people aged 15-65 accounted for the largest proportion and experienced rapid growth whereas two remaining cohorts made up a small share and fluctuated marginally.
Regarding the population rates, the percentage of urban population occupied around 6% at the beginning which was slightly higher than those of rural with approximately 5%. After that, the former underwent a surge and was predicted to reach a peak of around 37% in 2040. The total population’s figure followed a similar pattern, increasing from slightly over 10% in 1950 to around 43% by the end of the period. The rural population, by contrast, saw a fluctuation but showed an overall increase and was projected to reach around 8% in 2040.
In terms of age brackets, people aged 15-65 started at the highest level, comprising around 6% in 1950. It then experienced a dramatic increase and was expected to reach a peak at 35% over the next 90 years. Under 15 and over 65 age groups began at the similar level at below 5% before both figures fluctuated slightly, ranging from around 3% to 6%. By the end of the period, the former reached a higher level at around 6% compared to 5% of the latter.
