The two line graphs compare the population rate by age and place at an international level between 1950 and 2040.
Overall, there was a downward trend in the number of people who live in the outskirts of the city whereas the age group between 15 and 65 increased gradually over the considered period.
In 1950, the percentage of people living in an urban place stood at 5%, which afterward it is expected to reach its highest point in 2040, increasing roughly to 40%. Similarly, the figure for the total number has seen a steady growth between 1950 and 2000, yet this trend is estimated to reach a peak of 42% in 2040. Unlike the figures of total and urban population, which has increased over time, the percentage of rural people is predicted to remain stable at around 3% by 2040.
With respect to the age group between 15 and 65, it started at a low of roughly 5% in 1950. However, it is predicted that this age group will experience a dramatic increase from above 10% in 1970 to 35% by the end of 2040. Interestingly, though, both age groups (over 65 and under 15) have gone through relatively similar patterns, starting at around 3% in 1950, and according to the expectations, both these figures will stay stable at 5% until the period ends.
