Band 8+: The local council has decided to build a block of flats on the park opposite the place where you are living. Write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper. In your letter, explain • why you are writing • protest the development of this beautiful and necessary green space in your town • Make suggestions for what people can or should do to stop the development.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a resident of the area where the authorities have decided to demolish a garden for accommodation purposes, and I am writing to protest against this verdict through your print media.

The area includes many elderly people, who find peace and tranquillity in the park along with the melodious chirping of birds and serene breeze. Development of flats might seem to be profitable for a short period, but it will consequently make the community more depressed. Moreover, children would lose their playing zone, which would significantly affect their childhood development. Additionally, the greenery assists in maintaining a bearable temperature in extreme summer months of the year, as well as acting as a habitat to a vast flora and fauna that we experience on a daily basis.

I highly protest against this deterioration by signing a petition and I urge my fellow residents to follow the same, and to post on digital media opposing this act.

I hope you would reverse your decision.
