Overall, the town witnessed remarkable changes during the period shown. The most noticeable difference between the two maps was the expansion of the industrial zone.
As can be seen from the maps, between 2000 and 2009, the housing estate in the Northwest of Lakeside remained unchanged. The derelict warehouses and the old town were demolished to make way for a new car park and offices. Whereas, the arts centre and the western residential area were also pulled down and converted into a new multi-screen cinema and a shopping centre respectively. The school next to the arts centre was relocated a little close to the river.
