The given plans illustrate how the center of a small town named Islip will be transformed according to its proposed development.
Overall, the town will undergo several alterations, with the most significant ones being the emergence of a dual carriage way and many amenities that improve the inhabitants’ living conditions, such as bus station, car park and new accommodation zones.
According to Islip’s current plan, shops are situated both on the northern and southern sides of the main road, which goes from the west to the east of the town. While the rural area located to the north of the town remains untouched without signs of growth, the south is mainly occupied by dwellings and some other amenities, including a park and a school. The park is on the southeastern part of the town, whereas the school is situated on the southwest and near a small path leading from the main road.
Turning to the proposal, the most remarkable change that will be expected is a dual carriageway circling nearly the whole town, only excluding the school and an accommodation zone. The main road will be redeveloped to serve walkers only and the countryside as well as the shops to the north of this road will be eliminated to pave the way for building other amenities, namely a bus station, a shopping center, a car park and a new residential area. Meanwhile, the shop chains on the other side of the road will be kept intact. It is also worth noting that the park will be resized, which should leave more space for new houses nearby. The current housing areas will be moved to the southwest and southeast of the dual carriageway, while the school’s location will be unchanged, despite the building’s expansion.
