The maps depict how the Ryemouth village transformed between 1995 and the present.
Overall, the entire area underwent significant transformations, with housing and industrial features being renovated or added and green spaces being notably reduced. Over the surveyed period, the village has become a well-equipped, vibrant, and modernized living and travel destination.
In 1995, on the west side of the map, two rows of houses, with three on each side, were separated by a small path branching off the main road beside several sports courts. Below, a fish market was constructed next to a coffee shop, facing directly at the sea, where many morning fishing boats were located. The north-east corner contained open farmland, and a couple of hotels, standing next to a public park with mature trees, occupied the town centre.
In the present day, residential buildings have been expanded into more blocks of houses, adjoining the newly constructed restaurants on the right side of the village. The fish market was removed to make way for several apartments, while the coffee shop remained the same. The sea is now occupied by a couple of yachts, replacing fishing boats. Situated at the top right corner of the map are golf and tennis courses. Many developments have been implemented in the town centre: the hotels have been modernized and renovated, the public park was cleared to make way for holiday homes, and a car park can be seen on the eastern side of the map.
