The pictures demontrate impacts of a volcanic eruption which happened in 1706 on a region situated in the Atlantic Ocean. As can be seen from the maps, the disaster had a detrimental influence on the town’s port activities.

Looking at the first map, there was a castle located near the seashore, with residential houses and town square to its Northeast. In the upper corner of the map placed a port recording around 60 ships whose destinations were Europe and America per month. Regarding the position of the volcano, it situated abour 8 kilometers to the Northwest of the town.

Turning to the last picture, it can be seen that there were two phrases of lava flow occurring around a week apart. Having suffered from the first flow on the 8th of May affecting directly the residential area, the region had to endure another phrase hitting the port site on 16th May 1706. Subsequently, the ships’ activities might have correspondingly ceased.
