Overall, Frenton underwent significant urban development during this period, with many recreational and open spaces replaced by residential and commercial buildings. The area became more modernized with the addition of new facilities such as a hotel, golf course, supermarket, cinema, and blocks of flats.
In 1990, the northern part of Frenton featured a school, playing fields with trees, and houses. The southern part contained a bank, a library, trees, a theatre, and shops along the High Street. There was also a large café and park area on the eastern side.
By 2012, several major changes had taken place. The playing fields to the north were replaced by blocks of flats, and a restaurant took the place of the former bank. The café and park area was converted into a hotel and golf course, while the houses on the right side were replaced by more blocks of flats. Additionally, the theatre was transformed into a cinema, and the shops were replaced by a supermarket. The trees in the southwest corner were also removed to make way for a new technopark.
Despite these major changes, the school, hospital, and library remained in their original positions.
