The maps illustrate the development of a beachfront area in Australia between 1950 and the present day.
Overall, the area has undergone substantial transformation, with the addition of new infrastructure and amenities. While the pavilion and lighthouse have remained intact, the surrounding land has been redeveloped to include more parking spaces, new leisure venues and larger swimming amenities.
In 1950, the northern side of the beach contained a single car park to the east, a pavilion in the centre, and an open area to the west which appeared to be used for outdoor activities. On both sides of the beach there were two relatively small swimming pools, each measuring 25 metres, positioned at the western and eastern ends respectively. A lighthouse stood in the southeast corner near the coastline.
Today, several major developments can be observed. The original car park has been retained and a second car park has been constructed on the opposite side of the road, enhancing convenience for visitors. On the western side, the former open space has been replaced by a restaurant and a surf club, with a 50-metre pool added nearby, indicating a stronger focus on recreation. Similarly, a surf club has been built on the eastern side, although the 25-metre pool and the lighthouse have remained in their original locations.
