The two maps illustrate how a town center has transformed since 1990.
Overall, the town center has undergone dramatic changes, with much of the construction of a large shopping mall and the development of housing in the area. Additionally, some pedestrian crossings are introduced at specific locations to cater to the commuting needs of residents.
In 1990, the center of town featured a park, a library, and a town hall, bordered by Smith, Green, Oldfield, and Newton Streets. The northern side of Smith Street was lined with small specialized shops, including a newsagent, grocery store, bakery, butcher, and cafe, along with a large childcare center. To the south, a row of residential houses lined Green Street, while two banks were located on Oldfield Street, directly to the east and opposite the childcare center and town hall.
At present, the row of individual shops on Smith Street has been replaced by a large shopping mall, indicating a shift towards a more commercial infrastructure, while the childcare institution and bank on the corner of the Smith and Oldfield Streets remain intact. No changes have been made to the park, library and town hall, yet Smith Street has been closed to vehicles and is now a pedestrian zone, which has enhanced walkability. The houses along Green Street have been transformed into apartment blocks, while the bank opposite the town hall has been converted into a cafe. Finally, pedestrian crossings have been added to Oldfield and Green Streets, connecting the town hall to the newly introduced cafe and apartment block.
