The maps illustrate the transformations of the Spanish city of Castellon from the year 2000 to the present day.
It is evident that Castellon has undergone substantial urban development, particularly in the southern and northern regions, leading to the emergence of modern amenities and infrastructures.
In 2000, Castellon’s layout featured a significant road extending from the west to the east, adjacent to the city centre, with the train station and old market situated on the western flank of the city. The university was located in the northern part, near a cluster of three trees. The city port was prominently positioned in the south, serving as a key transportation hub.
In contrast, the current map reveals extensive changes throughout the city. Notably, a new cinema and an array of bars and clubs have been established near the former port area, enhancing the locale’s entertainment options. Furthermore, the previous train station has been replaced by a modern train station to the north, while a police station has been constructed on the west side, adjacent to a newly built shop. The city centre has also seen the introduction of a bike rental scheme, promoting sustainable transport. On the eastern side, an airport is currently under construction, complemented by a newly developed covered market. Additionally, a hall of residence has been added in the northern area, and the erstwhile forest has been converted into a shopping centre, reflecting a shift towards urbanization.
