The two maps illustrate the changes that occurred in Lakeside between the years 2000 and 2009.
Overall, Lakeside underwent significant urbanization between 2000 and 2009, with matural spaces reduced and outdated structures replaced by educational, commercial and residential developments.
The river divided Lakeside into two different zones. In 2010, the Northwest part of it was largely wild and residential. This area was poorly equipped, with only a large lake and spacious woodland, surrounded by derelict warehouses and the old town. Adjacent to the old town was school, and arts centre was also situated near the ancient town. The school and the arts hub was set as the boundaries between the two different residential areas. Over 9 years, remarkable shifts were recorded with the establishment of leisure amenities. Individuals could then unwind by shopping and film viewing at the cinema, enhancing their social interaction and entertainment value, since the residential area next to the river was replaced. In addition, an university was erected, derelict warehouses and the old town were converted into a parking space and an office building, providing more occupation for local inhabitants. Conversely, the school was narrowed to accomodate for the multi-screen cinema and the university. While the residential zone in the Northwest corner remained the same, without any transformation.
The Southeast part of this area experienced substantial industrialization. In 2000, it was partially residential and industrial, with factories located between the river and woodland. And at the bottom of the 2010 map, there was a area, which was next to the forest, provided accomodation for people. By 2009, the timberland was reduced to half of its original size, making room for extended production area. This also led to the vanishment of the dwelling area in 2000, boosting the local economy with extensive industrial complexes.
