The maps illustrate the changes made to the village of Stokeford between 1986 and 2010.
Overall, the village underwent a considerable transformation, as much of the farmland was converted into a residential area. Meanwhile, some key features, such as the river, the bridge and the post office, remained unchanged.
In 1986, farmland covered most of the village. The River Stoke flowed from the northwest to the southeast, with a bridge in the north. A garden was located in the centre, and a large house stood across from it. Farmland also occupied the northern and southern parts of the village. In the west, there were shops and a post office, with houses opposite these facilities, while the primary school stood in the east.
By 2010, the village had changed significantly. One of the most noticeable changes was the redevelopment of the farmland into a residential area. The shopping centre was demolished to make way for new houses. In addition, the primary school in the east was expanded, and the large house was converted into a retirement home. In contrast, the River Stoke, the bridge and the post office remained largely unchanged.
