In 2002, the waterfront was dominated by warehouses, factories, and container ship piers. These industrial buildings occupied most of the land surrounding the harbor, and a single factory was located further south near the river. The ferry terminal, situated in the northeast corner, was the only major service facility.
By 2022, the area had undergone major transformation. All warehouses, factories, and piers were removed and replaced with a marina, a hotel, and a series of houses along the riverbank. Additionally, two parks were introduced – one beside the hotel and another near the ferry terminal. An office tower was also constructed on the eastern side of the harbor, increasing the area’s commercial use.
If these developments continue in the future, the waterfront is likely to become even more focused on tourism and residential living, rather than industry.
