The location plans illustrates changes in part of the twon of Poulton from 1900 and 1935. Overall, Poulton underwent significant redevelopment with the factory, terraced house and railway cottages disappearing. The area became more residential and recreational, with modern flats, Bayley Mansions and a public park being introduced, while some existing facilities remained unchanged.
Looking at the first map, the factory was located in the eastern part of the area, with wasteland to its right and the railway cottages and Trent Street on the other side. There was also a shop, next to which was a laundry. At the bottom of the map, the railway workers’ cottages occupied the southern part of the area, while the café was located further north. Another area of wasteland was situated next to the railway workers’ cottages.
By 1935, the factory and part of the wasteland had been redeveloped to make way for Bayley Mansions. The remaining wasteland had been converted into a laundry, while the café occupied the laundry’s former site. In addition, the railway workers’ cottages were demolished, and a new road and a children’s play area were added. In the southern part of the area, another area of wasteland was transformed into Bayley Street Park.
