The maps demonstrate the alterations witnessed by the coastal town of Pentland in two distinct years, 1980 and 2007.
Overall, as can be observed, this town used to have industrial features and was mainly an industrial town. However, by 2007, all industrial features had disappeared, and new accommodation, commercial and recreational buildings were added.
To begin with, the most noticeable alteration of this town was the removal of the industrial zone situated in the western section. Instead, new shops, a swimming pool, a park and a multi storey car park were constructed, transforming the town into a residential area. Furthermore, the grassland located in the southwestern region of the map was completely replaced by a cinema.
Turning to the other features of the map, although the car park which can be seen in 1980 had been demolished, a new set of houses was developed to the south of the former carpark. Moreover, the sea had been renamed and converted into a yacht marine. Despite the fact that the road infrastructure of Pentland has remained mostly intact throughout the give time frame, a new half circular road was constructed around the Yacht Marina, followed by three apartments in the same road.
