The diagrams illustrate the transformation of Fosbury’s outskirts between 1980 and 2015.
Overall, the area underwent significant development, shifting from a predominantly residential and open space to a more commercial and industrial landscape over the 35-year period.
One of the few unchanged areas was the row of houses in the top-left corner. However, in the west, terraced houses were demolished to make way for a park, which was relocated to the right-hand side near the center of the map. The tennis courts, which existed in 1980, were replaced by a sports center and a car park by 2015. Additionally, a roundabout was introduced in the central area to facilitate traffic flow.
In the northern part of the map, near the main road running from north to south, a hotel remained intact. However, the grocer’s shop and block of flats adjacent to it were removed. Across from the hotel, in the top-right corner, terraced houses were replaced with commercial facilities, including a car park and a supermarket. The southeastern area saw the most industrialization, as all fields in the bottom-right were cleared to make room for warehouses.
