The maps illustrate the changes that occurred in the outskirts of Fosbury town between 1980 and 2015.
Overall, the area underwent significant development during this period, with recreational facilities being replaced by commercial and residential buildings. The town became more urbanized with better infrastructure.
In 1980, the northern part of the area contained a row of houses along the main road, with a hotel and grocer’s shop nearby. There was also a block of flats and terraced houses on the eastern side. The southern section featured large green spaces, including a park with trees, tennis courts, and fields, which provided recreational areas for residents.
By 2015, substantial transformations had taken place. The tennis courts and fields were completely removed to make way for new developments. A sports centre with various facilities was constructed in the southwestern area, accompanied by a car park. The park was relocated to a more central position and became smaller in size. Additionally, a roundabout was built to improve traffic flow, and warehouses were established in the southeastern corner. The grocer’s shop was replaced by a modern supermarket with its own car park, reflecting changing shopping habits.
