The bar charts illustrate the number of individuals in Europe affected by four types of noise pollution during 2007, measured in millions. Overall, cities recorded higher number than rural areas in every types of noise pollution, with traffic topping the chart in both night and day. It is closely followed by trains which ranked second in terms of affecting individuals by its noise. The rest of noise pollution showed broadly comparable figures. In rural areas, traffic was the dominant figure, while trains were the second most predominant figure. Notably, aircraft exhibited very low numbers and industry was the only place which did not affect people.
Regarding cities, traffic showed the highest number over the period , accounting for 68 M at night and 48M during day. Trains showed almost similar number in both night and day, at 10M and 8M. Air craft, on the other hand, recorded higher number in night at 4 but, during day it was at a mere 1M. Interestingly, industry showed a considerable low number during night at 0.25K and during day it was 1M.
Turning to rural areas, the patterns of people affected by noise was somewhat same. The number of people affected by traffic was 35M at night and 24M during day. Trains were the second area which had higher number of people affected by noise of it, amounting to 8 during day and 6 during night.
