The line graph compares the number of tourist visits to Malaysia and Dubai between 1995 and 2003.
In general, both destinations witnessed an upward trend in tourist arrivals over the period. However, Dubai’s increase was markedly more rapid than Malaysia’s.
In 1995, Dubai attracted a modest 50,000 tourists, but this figure surged significantly over the following years. By 1996, the number had doubled to 100,000. This upward momentum continued, with 150,000 visitors in 1997 and a further rise to 200,000 in 1998. The growth remained robust, reaching 250,000 in 1999 and 300,000 by 2000. From that point, the numbers increased steadily, peaking at nearly 450,000 visitors in 2003. This reflects a total growth of 400,000 tourists over the eight-year span.
In comparison, Malaysia also experienced a rise in tourist numbers, though its growth was more gradual. Starting at approximately 80,000 tourists in 1995, the figure rose to 120,000 in 1996, representing a 50% increase. The steady growth trend persisted, with 160,000 visitors recorded in 1997 and 190,000 in 1998. By 1999, the number reached 220,000, followed by a further increase to 250,000 in 2000. The growth rate slowed slightly in the later years, culminating in 325,000 visitors by 2003. This represented an overall increase of 245,000 tourists during the period.
