The line graph illustrates the number of tourists visiting Malaysia and Dubai between 1995 and 2003, measured in thousands.
Overall, tourist numbers increased in both countries over the period, although Dubai experienced much more rapid growth and eventually surpassed Malaysia after entering the new millenium. While Malaysia saw steady growth until 2001, visitor numbers declined slightly in the final two years.
In 1995, Malaysia received about 100 thousand tourists, which was significantly higher than Dubai’s figure of roughly 40 thousand. Tourist numbers in Malaysia rose steadily to around 200 thousand in 1998 and continued increasing to approximately 270 thousand in 2000. During the same period, Dubai also experienced growth, climbing from about 40 thousand in 1995 to nearly 160 thousand by 1999, although there was a slight dip in 1999.
By 2001, both destinations attracted a similar number of visitors, at just over 300 thousand. However, their trends diverged thereafter. Tourist arrivals in Malaysia fell from about 300 thousand in 2001 to around 240 thousand by 2003. In contrast, Dubai continued to attract increasing numbers of tourists, rising from just above 300 thousand in 2001 to approximately 400 thousand in 2003, the highest figure on the chart.
