In brief, private cars remained the most chosen vehicle as opposed to the number of buses. Also of note is that while there were considerable upward trends in the number of private cars and other types, the figure for lorries, buses and motorcycles showed noticeably negligible changes.
Looking at the details, private cars had the most dramatic rise, rocketing from 19 million to 24 million vehicles in 2006 which also hit the peak for the whole period. In contrast, other vehicles experienced a slower increase, going up by 0.7 million in ten years.
On the contrary, lorries, together with motorcycles, saw a slight drop between the two years. In 1996, there were 0.5 million lorries but declined to 0.6 million in 2006. The numbers for motorcycles were 1 million and 0.6 million for 1996 and 2006 respectively. Regarding buses, its figure stayed the same throughout the time.
