The pie charts compare the percentages of electricity production by different fuel sources in Australia and France between 1980 and 2000.
It is clear that the highest proportion of coal was the main source for electricity production. By contrast, the portion of electricity production by natural gas and hydropower was the lowest in the given years.
In terms of electricity production by different fuel in Australia, the percentage of electricity production by coal increased from 50% in 1980 to 130% in 2000, a total rise of 80% over the 20-year period. In 1980, 20% of hydropower was the source for production of electricity, and this figure rose to 36% in the year 2000. There was a decrease of 8% and 18% of oil and natural gas for electricity production from 10% to 2% and 20% to 2% respectively over the year of 20 years.
On the other hand, in 1980, the proportion of nuclear power and oil for producing electricity in France increased from 25% to 126% as well as 20% to 25% accordingly in 2000. France saw a decline of 23% and 3% in the proportion of natural gas and hydropower which was the sources for electricity production from 25% to 2% and 5% to 2% between 1980 and 2000 respectively. There was a period of stability in the percentage of coal for electricity production between 1980 and 2000, at 25%.
