Overall, the housing remained the most dominating category in both years, followed closely by the food and then other categories such as transport, leisure and other goods/services.
Looking at the details, in the first chart the average expenditure of the families in UK is higher on housing as compared to any other category roughly three-tenth of the total share. The second category on which households spend most is food about quarter of the expenditure which is followed by transport which is comprised of nearly 18%. While the smallest part is spent on leisure and entertainment about 14% and the remaining portion is used for other goods.
There is not much difference in the proportions after a decade, only slight differences can be seen. The dominant category is still housing consisting about two-fifth of the share. The food represented the second largest share and transport is standing on 15%, and leisure and entertainment remained the least spent category.
