The pie chart illustrate the energy capacity in gigawatts by source in 2015 and provide predictions for 2040.
From an overall perspective, it is evident that while the numbers of solar and wind will see an upward trend, the opposite was true with the remaining categories. It is also noticeable that the figure for fossil fuels will be the most common energy capacity throughout the period shown.
In the first instance, the proportion of fossil fuels constituted 64̀% of the total share and will account for 44%, remaining the biggest component over the course of 25 years. Additionally, the percentage of other renewables had 23% and it is estimated that they will see a slight drop of 2%, reaching 21% in 2040. Moreover, the figure for nuclear will decline to 5%, being the minority of the pie chart.
Secondly, the proportion of solar energy will increase almost 9 times to reach 18%. Furthermore, the figure for wind energy capacity will grow by 7%, accounting for 12% over a time span of 23 years.
