The pie chart shows the proportion of energy generated from different sources in a North American country in 2020.
Overall, natural gas was by far the dominant source of energy, while renewable sources such as biomass, solar, wind, and hydroelectric power played only a minor role. Coal and nuclear energy also contributed significant shares.
Natural gas accounted for the largest proportion, at 40% of total energy production. Coal ranked second, representing 25%, meaning that these two sources together supplied almost two-thirds of the country’s energy needs. Nuclear power made up a further 15%, making it the third most important contributor.
By contrast, renewable sources played only a small role in energy generation. Biomass, solar, wind, and hydroelectricity each represented just 5% of the total, equal to one another. Each of these figures was around three times smaller than nuclear, five times lower than coal, and eight times less than natural gas.
