Overall, vegetables and fruits were the most widely consumed food globally, including in China and India, while nuts and seeds made up only a small share of worldwide consumption.
In 2008, processed food made up the largest proportion of global consumption at 41%, followed by vegetables and fruits at 29%, and animal products at 26%, which was the third highest. Nuts and seeds contributed the least, accounting for only 4% of total consumption worldwide.
In contrast, China and India showed different ways of consumption. processed food showed the largest percentages at 34% and 39%, respectively. In China, vegetables and fruits were the second most consumed, making up 32%, compared with only 23% in India. Interestingly, nuts and seeds accounted for just above 10%. in India, while in China they represented the third largest percentage approximately 20%.
