The graphs represent data on the demographic breakdown by age of Brazil and Germany in 2000 and estimates for the year 2050.
Overall, it can be seen from the first two pie charts that the majority of the people in Brazil are adults, and this is not expected to change in 2050. Moreover, in 2000, the percentage of adults in both countries was the same.
In 2000, 65 percent of the population was adults between the ages of 15 to 64, and 30 percent was youth under the age of 14. However, only about 5 percent of the people living in Brazil were over 65 years old. In the same year, the proportion of adults was identical to Brazil’s in Germany, but the percentage of seniors was over 5 times greater compared to Brazil. The youth accounted for 13 percent of the population.
In 2050, it is expected that the percentage of adults in Brazil will increase by 5 percent, and the percentage of seniors will increase by 8 percent. However, according to the estimates, the percentage of youth will decrease to 17 percent. In contrast, the percentage of youth is only expected to drop by only 1 percent in Germany. Additionally, the proportion of seniors will double, and the percentage of adults will decline to 48 percent in 2050.
