The pie charts illustrate how much money is spent on household expenditures in two countries in 2010.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that while the other goods and services were the highest in Japan, it was the housing category that accounted for the highest share in Malaysia. However, both countries had the health care category as the lowest share.
In 2010, housing expenditures made up about a fifth (21%) in Japan and slightly higher in Malaysia with just over a third (34%). Similarly, in terms of the food, both countries’ proportions were around one quarter with only a small difference with Malaysia (27%) being slightly higher than Japan (24%). However, other goods and services took a bit higher proportion in Japan (29%) in comparison with Malaysia where it stands at (26%).
As for the other categories, the transport category shared only 10% of expenditures in Malaysia, whereas it was twice as much higher in Japan. In contrast, the health care proportions were the lowest in both countries with 6% in Japan and half of that figure in Malaysia, respectively.
