The pie charts illustrate the share of power resources used for the creation of electric power in Chile and Norway in two distinct years:2005 and 2023.
Overall, in 2005, natural gas led the categories, while renewable resources such as wind and solar accounted for the lowest percentages. However, by 2023, the renewable resources overtook all other categories to become the largest energy source.
At the beginning of the period, natural gas accounted for the plurality of electricity generation, whereas coal comprised 20%, followed by hydroelectric power, which made up 35% of the total energy supply. Wind and solar got 5%, making them the lowest category.
After eighteen years, in 2023 all categories experienced significant changes. Wind and solar rose sharply and became the dominant category at 40%. Furthermore, hydroelectric power decreased by ten percentage points and took second place, exceeding natural gas and coal. Coal and natural gas made up 15% and 20% respectively.
