The two pie charts illustrate the proportion of four sources of energy (hydoelectric, natural gas, coal, and wind and solar) used for generating electricity between 2005 and 2023 in Chile and Norway.
Overall, the use of wind and solar energy to generate electricity has increased to occupy almost half of all energy production, while the use of natural gas has decreased the most. There was only a minimal decrease in the usage of hydroelectric and coal to generate electricity over the years.
In 2005, only 5% of wind and solar energy was used, whereas it dramatically increased to 40%, making it a major source of electricity generation in 2023. In contrast, natural gas was the most used electricity generator in 2005. This rate dropped by 20% over 17 years span in both countries.
Coal has the lowest drop rate of only 5%, initially covering 20% of energy in 2005 to 15% in 2023. Similarly, hydroelectric energy has also dropped in the production of electricity by 10%, contributing a quarter in 2023.
