The pie charts depict a sale breakdown of five diverse book genres which were sold by a bookshop in the years 1972, 1992 and 2012.
Overall, it is discernible from the given pie charts that there was an upward trend in children’s fiction and adult fiction sales proportion, contrasting with the remaining books which saw a downward pattern. Notably, although other books recorded the highest figures in 1972, adult fiction surpassed them and became the dominant book sales among the five examined ones from 1992 to 2012.
In 1972, other books topped the list with a quarter of the overall sales, compared to travel books. Whereas the former’s statistics decreased significantly to 12% in 2012, the latter’s data witnessed a rise of 3% in 1992 before declining sharply to 10% in 2012.
Also can be seen in the first year, adult fiction books sales proportion accounted for a fifth of the overall sales, which was the same as the percentage of children’s fiction books. While the figure for the former almost doubled to finish at 45%, which made it the biggest book sales in 2012, the data for the latter grew gradually to 25% in the same year. In contrast, starting at 20%, the percentage of biography books dropped dramatically to 8% and became the lowest book sales in 2012
