The following Charts show the percentage of students on an adult education center in the various courses offered in 1985 and today.
At a first glance, it is clear that some courses do not seem to exist anymore, particularly Music apreciation and Local history. Although, it is not known the reason for the disappearance of such courses, one migth conclude that this most likely reflects a declining interest in the arts and humanities fields. This is further proven by the fact that even courses in the humanities and arts field that still exist, namely the Arts and Modern languages courses, have also seen a decline in popularity from 1983 to today.
On the other hand, the cookery course has seen a sligth increase in the percentage of students taking it and surprisingly the fitness and dance course has seen no changes between this year and 1985. Meanwhile, one of the most surprising things about the chart from this year, is the fact that the IT course represents the course with the most ammount of students enrolled, namely it represents 27 percent of the total students. This is even more chocking considering the course did not even exist in 1985, so one could probably assume that subjects relating with technology have become much more popular with students since 1985.
All in all, this graph present us with an intersting comparrison throught the years in terms of what students enjoy or find useful in educational courses. There is a clear indication that arts and humanities courses have signficantly lost popularity, while IT has skyrocketed, although further data would be necessary in order to draw more meaningful conclusions.
