The two pie charts compare the proportion of students enrolled in various adult education courses at a centre in 1985 and the current year.
In 1985, the most popular course was Modern Languages (French/German/Spanish), with 24% of students participating. This was followed by Fitness and Dance (22%) and Art (17%). Local History and Cookery attracted 15% and 14% of students respectively, while Music Appreciation had the fewest students, accounting for just 8%.
In contrast, this year’s data reveals a shift in interest. Information Technology (IT), which was not present in 1985, has become the most attended course, with 27% of students. Fitness and Dance remains popular, maintaining its 22% share. Cookery has increased in popularity to 19%, whereas Art and Modern Languages have slightly declined to 15% and 17% respectively. Local History and Music Appreciation have disappeared from the current curriculum.
Overall, the data shows a clear trend towards more practical and modern courses, especially IT, reflecting changes in societal needs and interests over time.
