The pie chart compares the source of energy in Australia and France for the year 1980 and 2000.

Overall it is clear that the electricity production of both countries had increased significantly in the year 2000. On the top of that coal was the main source of power for Australia where, France utilized all of its resource nuclear power being the main.

In 1980, Australia produce 100 unit of electricity with the major contribution (50units ) comming from coal and the rest was from natural gas hydropower (each producing 20unit), and oil (10 units). By 2000 the output has increased by 70 units with the coal becoming the fuel for around three quarters of the sum (130 units) and hydropower being significant source supplying approximately twenty per cent (136 units). In contrast the total electricity generated in France was 90 units. In the year 1980 they used coal as a source for twenty five units which was matched by natural gas. The remaining 40 units were produced largely from oil and nuclear power and hydro contributing only 5 units.

In 2000 however the output had doubled to 180 units interestingly nuclear which had not been used at all in Australia had developed into the main source producing almost 70 per cent at 126 units while coal and oil together had 50 units. Other sources were no longer significant
