The two pie charts compare the distribution of world forest and timber production in five different regions involving South America, Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.
Overall, the proportion of forest in Africa is by far the highest, but its timber production is the lowest. Meanwhile, North America holds the second highest percentage of forest and dominates total timber production. Furthermore, with the exception of Africa, all other regions have a higher share of timber output relative to their forest area.
Regarding the distribution, Africa leads with 27%, followed by North America with 25%. The remaining regions account for smaller percentages, with Europe standing at 18%, South America at 16%, and Asia holding the smallest share at 14%. The disparity between the highest and lowest proportions is 13 percentage points.
In terms of timber production, North America ranks highest, accounting for 30%, followed by South America with 23%. Additionally, Europe and Asia account for 20% and 18% of timber production respectively, both of which exceed their corresponding forest shares (18% and 14%). Conversely, Africa has the smallest share of timber output at only 9%, despite having the largest proportion of forest.
