The pie charts illustrate which sources the citizens of two countries, Germany and Nigeria turn to first to access the news. It should be noted that the figures for Nigeria do not include figures for rural areas of the country.
Overall, It is apparent that although television is one of the popular news providers for both countries, the habits of getting the news in two nations are vastly different.
In Germany, primary news resources are newspaper and television, around for a half and a third of the population respectively. In Nigeria, television is the dominant news provider and the proportion of people who watch the news on TV, about 63%, is double that in Germany. In addition, while the newspaper is one of the main news sources in Nigeria, just 13% of Nigerians prefer it.
On the other hand, the second most popular news provider in Nigeria is radio, with roughly a quarter of citizens using it, whereas in Germany, only one in ten people listens to the radio. Regarding the internet, 11% of Germans get updated on news online, while this habit makes up only a tiny minority in Nigeria, at 1%.
