The following maps illustrate Southwest Airport, with the first map showing the site of the airport now, and the second map showing the proposed plans for redevelopment of the site. Overall, the site has a departure and arrival section, as well as 8 gates, and the plans for redevelopment offer more facilities and gates, potentially improving the passengers’ overall experience in the airport, as well as providing more space for more airplanes.
The map of current site shows the departure section with security passport control, on the west side, and the arrival section with passport control customs, on the east side. Both sections have only one entrance/exit, and the departure section has a check-in on the west side and a cafe on the north-east side. Towards the north are the eight gates for all airplanes, with a walkway on the west side to ease transport to and from the gates.
The map of the site after redevelopment shows significant changes to the site, including the addition of more facilities, shops, the extension of the building to provide 10 more gates, and replacement of the walkway with a sky train. By then, the departure section will have been reorganised to have a bag drop on the west side instead of the old check-in, a new check-in in the place of the old cafe, and a new cafe on the south-west side of the departure section, along with the addition of shops beside the security passport control section. Not only that, the arrival section will also have been extended on the south-east side to provide space for a car hire, along with the addition of an ATM on the east side of the section, and a cafe next to the ATM. The departure section and the arrival section will also have a separate entrance and an exit, improving the flow of passengers into and out of the building. The north side of the building will also have been extended towards north-west side and north-east side to add 10 more gates, and the walkway will have been replaced by the sky train in the middle, to improve transport into and out of the gates.
