Overall, US searchers saw a significant increase in the total amount in 2010 compared to the figure in 2004. Most search engines exhibited a downward trend or stagnation, whilst Google dominated the market and saw a dramatic growth throughout the period.
Concerning the total number of American searchers, it had been 4.5 billion in November 2004 then it quadrupled to 16 billion around more than 5 years later. Looking at the individual search engines, Google exhibited the highest portion among the search engines from the beginning of the period with roughly 35%, followed by Yahoo with just over 30% of Internet searches. Microsoft started at approximately 15%, accounting for more portion than AOL and Ask Jeeves by around under 10% and roughly 5%, respectively.
Thereafter, Google saw a dramatic rise over the period and rocketed to approximately 67% in September 2010. In contrast, Yahoo witnessed a substantial decline, falling to nearly 20% in the end of the period. The percentage of searches of Microsoft exhibited roughly above 10% in September 2010 after experiencing a slight decrease in the previous years while AOL and Ask Jeeves saw a constant trend throughout the period and both ended with approximately 3-4%.
