The table compares the percentage of water consumption for domestic, industrial and agricultural purposes in 6 different countries in 2005.
Overall, agricultural had the highest figures of water usage in United Kingdom, China and India. Moreover, industrial use represents the lowest share among five countries, except for Canada.
The United Kingdom uses most of their water on agricultural purpose, namely for 90%, whereas both domestic and industrial uses accounted for 5%. Similarly, in China and India the highest percentage of water use is agricultural, which made up 87% and 82%, with a minority in industrial and domestic objectives.
It’s interesting to note that Australia’s water consumption is dominant for domestic sector, which contributed 65%, with 33% in agricultural sector and a very small proportion (2%) in industrial objective. In contrast, Canada showed a different trend, domestic use is made up 63% and almost a third (32%) for industrial use, with 5% in agricultural. Meanwhile, Japan had 19% for domestic purpose, 15% for industrial and above three fifth (66%) for agricultural.
