In 1985, people who lived in England travelled an average of 4.740 miles while using all various of transport, which increased dramatically to 6.475 miles at the end of the period. The figure for cars travel was took the first position among these categories, growing significantly to 4.806 miles in 2000, compared to 3.199 miles in 1985. People who travelled by train experienced a considerably growth from 289 miles in 1985 to 366 miles in next 15 years, making the third most used means of transport that year. The figure for Long distance and Taxi starting at 54 and 13 miles respectively. The former doubled to 124 miles and the latter grew to 42 miles at the end of the period
By contrast, people who used Local bus witnessed a sharp decline to 274 miles in 2000, compared to 429 miles in 1985. We can see a similar pattern in the figure of Walking and Bicycle, which had the corresponding figures of 255 and 51 miles, these figures then fell to 237 and 41 average miles respectively.
