The table chart compares the percentage of household earnings per month spent on four categories in five European countries.
In general, Housing and Food and drink account for largest share of household expenses in all five countries. However, it is clearly apparent that household spend less money on Clothing and Entertainment than on other categories in these nations.
Regarding the two largest expenditures, people in UK record the highest percentage of their income to Housing at 37%, follows by Germany (33%) and France (31%). In contrast, the figure for Turkey and Spain are lower, at 20% and 18% respectively. However, when it comes to Food and drink, Turkey has the greatest proportion (36%) , and Spain follows at 31%. The UK, Germany and France represent smaller percentages for this category, ranging between 22% and 27%.
Looking at remaining categories, spending on Clothing is highest in Germany at 15%, while France registers the lowest figure at only 7%. The proportion of the UK, Turkey and Spain range from 8% to 12%. Lastly, Entertainment expenditure peaks in Germany at 19%, whereas Turkey represents the smallest percentage at 10%. The percentage of spending on Entertainment in Spain and France devote 15% and 13%, while the UK spends just 11%.
