The table illustrates the percentage of adults in five different age groups who used the Internet in one country from 2003 to 2006.
Overall, Internet use increased steadily across all age groups during the four-year period. Younger adults consistently recorded the highest rates of Internet usage, whereas the oldest age group had the lowest proportions throughout the period.
Among people aged 16 to 24, Internet usage rose from 80% in 2003 to 90% in 2006, making this group the most active users in every year. Similarly, the figure for those aged 25 to 44 increased from 70% to 85%, with the largest rise occurring between 2003 and 2004. Adults aged 45 to 54 also experienced considerable growth, climbing from 50% to 70% over the same period.
The older age groups showed lower levels of Internet use but followed the same upward trend. For individuals aged 55 to 64, the proportion increased gradually from 30% in 2003 to 45% in 2006. Meanwhile, the percentage of people aged 65 and over rose from only 15% to 25%. Despite these improvements, the oldest adults remained the least likely to use the Internet throughout the period.
