A glance at the table below demonstrates the area of land covered by forest in four different countries – Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and Chile – in 1990, 2005, and 2015 (estimated).
From an overall perspective, the proportion of forest is decreasing in Australia and Brazil, while this is increasing in New Zealand and Chile.
It is evident that the maximum area covered by jungle was in Brazil, in 1990, which then reduced by 5% in 15 years and reached 57.2%. it is predicted that deforestation will continue further and area will be reduced to 53.5% by 2015. Similarly Australia faced a mere deforestation, which resulted in reduction of forest land from 21.9% in 1990 to 21.3% in 2005. It is estimated that it will further reduce to 20% in 2015.
In contrast, New Zealand promoted reforestation and increased the three reason from 28.8% in 1990 to 31% in 2005. Furthermore, this is thought to reach 32.3% by 2015. Additionally, Chile had the minimum area covered by jungle in 1990 – 20.4%. Then, it rose to 21.5% in 2005 and will reach to 22% by the end of 2015.
