The table illustrates data on national consumer expenditure on different consumer goods in Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey in 2002.
Overall, the consumer spending on food, drinks and tobacco was the highest comparing to the spending on two other categories which include clothing and footwear and leisure and education. The highest percentage of spending on food, drinks and tobacco was in Turkey, estimated at 32.14% and Ireland with 28.91%, respectively. Following that, Spain spent 18.80% and Italy and Sweden had almost equal outlay percentage,16.36% and 15.77 %, respectively.
The medium level of consumer expenditure was regarding clothing and footwear. Italy had the highest spending on this category of consumer goods, while Ireland, Spain and Turkey had slightly similar amounts of spending around 6.5%. Sweden spent the least at around 5.4% in comparison to other states.
The lower amount of consumer expenditure was on leisure and education compared to other categories. In this case, Turkey spent the most at 4.35 %, while Italy and Sweden spent a somewhat similar percentage at 3.20%. The lower amount of consumer spending in this category had Spain with only 1.98%.
