The table shows the calculation literacy rates in percentage in the world by five regions from 2000 to 2004 for male and female.
Overall, the estimated world wide literacy rate was about 82.2% and in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania have the highest literacy rates with over 90% of the population. In Asia and Africa, both have large differences in literacy rates.
The highest region was Europe that has literacy rates with 99.2% the total for male and 98.5% of female’s literacy rates. It has no a large differences with male, was only about less than 1%.
In Oceania and the Americas, the male’s literacy rates were 94.2% and 94.1%. It approximately shows 0,1% in small differences. But both have over 93% literacy rates.
The other region is Asia and Africa as the least in the percentage. The literacy rate in Asia overall was about 79.3% and it was 85.9% and 72.5% of each genders. Moreover, Africa has the lowest literacy rates among the regions with overall only 62.5% in the world. For male and female rates it also shows a small number in percentage, about 71.6% and 53.9%.
