The table presents data on the approximate literacy proportions in the world and across Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Ocenia in the period of 2000 to 2004. The information is presented in terms of males and females as a percentage of the population.
Overall, Europe is popular with the highest population that are capable to read and write, while Africa stood as the least continent. Males proportions are seen to be higher than that of women across the five regions.
In terms of Males’ shares, Men predominated the division shares as in terms of literacy rates in the world scoring 87.2% out of 82.2%, Europe showed the highest percentage against the other regions. Meanwhile, Americas and Ocenia held the second place with relatively similar shares 94.1% and 94.2%, respectively. Asia recorded the second least rates of men across the population with rate of 85.9%.
On the other hand, women percentages in Europe was seen almost the same as men with rate of 98.5% from overall percentage, meanwhile, In Africa, women didn’t keen on reading and writing as a result they contributed as 53.9% against the population rate. Americas and Oceania positions, were as same as that of Men scored 93.2% and 92.7%.
